An exterior detail is a full reset of everything you can see from outside the car, and it is a different service from a wash. A wash removes loose dirt. A detail removes what is bonded to the paint — the iron particles from brake dust that turn purple when dissolved, and the industrial fallout that a clay bar pulls out of the clear coat.
That decontamination is why the paint feels like glass afterward rather than fine sandpaper. It is also mandatory prep before any polishing or coating, which makes this the natural first step if a coating is where you are heading.
The wheels get their own attention: faces, barrels, and wheel wells cleaned properly, then tires dressed. Door jambs and the gas cap area are cleaned too — the details that reveal whether a car was detailed or just rinsed.

Foam loosens grit so it lifts away instead of being dragged across the paint by a mitt.

Wheels deep cleaned front and back, wheel wells scrubbed, tires cleaned and dressed. Done before the paint, always.

Hand wash
Contact washing by hand with clean media. No brushes, no automatic anything.

Decontaminate
Iron remover dissolves embedded brake dust; a clay bar pulls out what remains until the finish is glass-smooth.

Dry and detail
Rinsed and dried properly, then glass, door jambs, and the gas cap area finished by hand.

Common Questions
What is the difference between this and a car wash?+
A wash removes loose dirt from the surface. An exterior detail also removes what is chemically bonded to the paint — iron fallout and embedded contamination — and finishes the wheels, wells, jambs, and glass by hand.
What does the clay bar actually do?+
It shears off contamination the wash left behind: rail dust, overspray, tree sap mist. Run a hand over the paint afterward and it feels like glass. It is also required prep before polishing or coating.
Do you wax or seal the car at the end?+
The standard exterior detail is a clean and decontamination service. The Executive Detail adds a spray sealant and hydrophobic glass treatment. For lasting protection, a ceramic coating is the better answer.
Can you wash a matte or wrapped car?+
Yes. Matte finishes and vinyl wraps need dedicated products and absolutely no wax or polish — we adjust the process. Tell us when you book. We work on wrapped exotics regularly.
